Yury Bondarenko was born in 1952 in Moscow. He graduated from the Surikov Art Academy in Moscow in 1982, from the studios of D. Mochalsky and A. Fomkin. After his graduation from the Art Academy, he took a post-graduate course and wrote a thesis which embraced the study of painting techniques and drawings by old European masters. He finished his post-graduate course in 1984. During this time he was also teaching at the Surikov Art Academy.
In 1982 he joined The Artists' Union of Russia, since then he has been a regular participant in the All-Union, All-Russian and International Exhibitions. Since 1989 Yury Bondarenko has had over 30 one-man exhibitions in Russia and abroad, in addition to participation in many group exhibitions.
